Organizing Pages

To create a collection of favorite pages

View the page you want to add to your collection of favorite pages.
On the Favorites menu, choose Add Page To Favorites.

Tips

The icons to the left of each Favorite item represent what type of protocol that item uses.

	An HTML document on the Internet (HTTP protocol)
	A document on your computer (FILE protocol)
	An FTP site (FTP protocol)
	A mail document (MAILTO protocol)
	An Internet newsgroup (NEWS protocol)

To keep track of your favorite pages, you can organize them into folders.
To remove an item from your Favorites list, choose Open Favorites on the Favorites menu, select the item, and then press the Delete key on the keyboard.
You can import and export your Favorites list.

To organize your Favorites list

On the Favorites menu, choose Open Favorites.

To Do This

Add the current page to your Favorites list Make sure the page you want to add is active, and choose Add Page To Favorites on the Favorites menu.

Add a different page to your Favorites list On the Favorites menu, choose New Favorite.

Add a new folder On the Favorites menu, choose New Folder.

Add a divider On the Favorites menu, choose New Divider.

Move favorite pages, folders, and dividers Drag the page, folder, or divider. A black bar indicates where the item will appear when you release the mouse button.

Rename an item Click the item name, and then type a new name.

Delete an item Click the item's icon to select it, and then press the Delete key on the keyboard.

Go to a favorite page Double-click the favorite page icon.

Get information about a favorite page Click the favorite page icon to select it, and then, on the File menu, choose Get Info.

Close the Favorites window Click the close box in the upper-left corner.

Tip

You might want to organize your pages by topic. For example, you could create a folder called Art Pages for storing information about art exhibits and reviews and a folder called Flying for storing information about trends in aviation.

To import a collection of favorite pages

On the Favorites menu, choose Open Favorites.
On the File menu, choose Import.
Select the HTML file you want to import.
The imported file appears in a folder with the same name as the file at the bottom of the Favorites window.

To export your favorites list

On the Favorites menu, choose Open Favorites.
On the File menu, choose Export.
Type a name for the file.
Choose the location where you want the file saved.

Tips

You can export just the contents of a folder in your Favorites list by double-clicking the folder to open it and then choosing Export.
To keep track of your favorite pages, you can organize them into folders.
To use your Netscape Navigator™ Bookmarks, import the Bookmarks.html file in the System Folder/Preferences/Netscape folder.
To use your Anarchie© Bookmarks, import the Bookmarks file in your Bookmarks folder located in your Anarchie folder.
You can also import a file by dragging it from the Finder to the Favorites window.
You can create a shortcut to a page by dragging it from the Favorites list to the Desktop.

To create a shortcut to a page on the desktop

If the page is not on your Favorites list, add it.
On the Favorites menu, choose Open Favorites.
Drag a page from the Favorites window to the desktop.

To save the current page on your computer

On the File menu, choose Save As.
Type a name for the page.
Select the location where you want the page saved.
- To save the text and HTML tags, on the Format pull-down menu, choose HTML Source.
- To save the text only, on the Format pull-down menu, choose Plain Text.
Click Save.

Notes

To save an image on a page, point to the image you want to save, press and hold down the mouse button, and then choose Download Image To Disk.
To save all the images on a page, hold down the Command and Options keys while you choose Download Image To Disk.
To copy an image to the Clipboard, point to the image you want to copy, press and hold down the mouse button, and then choose Copy Image.

To save the page or picture indicated by a hyperlink

Point to the hyperlink or item you want, press and hold down the mouse button, and then choose Download Link To Disk.
Type a name for the item.
Select the location where you want the item saved.
Click Save.

Note

Use this method if you want to download a copy of an item without first opening it.

To change the home page

View the page you want to see when you first start Microsoft Internet Explorer.
On the Edit menu, choose Options.
Click the Home/Search Page tab.
On the pull-down menu, choose Home Page.
Click Use Current.

Tips

To quickly set the current page as the home page, point to the page, press and hold down the mouse button, and then choose Set Home Page.
To use the standard home page, click Use Default.
To have no home page, click Use None. This will make the Home Page button on the tool bar and the Home Page command on the Go menu unavailable.
To use your Internet Config home page settings, select the Use Internet Config Settings check box.
If you are familiar with authoring Web pages, try creating your own home page with links to your favorite topics.

To change the search page

View the page you want to use as your search page.
On the Edit menu, choose Options.
Click the Home/Search Page tab.
On the pull-down menu, choose Search Page.
Click Use Current.

Tips

To quickly set the current page as the search page, point to the page, press and hold down the mouse button, and then choose Set Search Page.
To use the standard search page, click Use Default.
To have no search page, click Use None. This will make the Search Page button on the tool bar and the Search The Internet command on the Go menu unavailable.
